June 23 13 Years Since GlastonburyLast night I was watching Glastonbury from the comfort of my sofa and realised as they announed Bjork playing for the first time in 13 years, that it is actually 13 years since I went! Since then I have been to university, moved to Dorset, worked for a boss who also employed strippers, worked for an insurance company, been to visit Steph while she was living abroad in Italy, moved to Hitchin, worked at Tesco, moved to Hertford, bought a flat in Welwyn, sold the flat, moved to Hitchin, got two cats, changed jobs to easyJet, split up with Steph. Showing how long ago it actually was - It was before mobile phones when you couldn't even phone your friends to say you had lost your tent and where was it!
I only actually keep in touch with one of the people who I went with now, Si, oh and my parents who gave us a lift down as none of us could drive. We promptly pitched our tent a few miles away from them as you do at 17. Actually i think my dad would probably take his guitar these days and establish his own impromptu stage so maybe even now I would still camp a few miles away... Apparently 1994 was the first time it was televised, the year they introduced the wind turbine and also the year when they set a juggling world record - must say i missed that!
Anyway, I think we saw a whole load of bands which included, The Tindersticks, Saint Etienne, Ride, Manics (lets build a bypass through here...), Bjork, Oasis (at 2pm in the afternoon), Blur headlining, Spiritualized (the last act of the weekend, at which we point we were cold, had lugged the worlds biggest and heaviest tent to the car - It was at this moment that Spiritualized started up, I found twenty pounds which was spent on chips! We borrowed someones camp fire and it was probably one of the best moments of the whole weekend), Senser, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pulp, Boo Radleys.... and loads more who were obviously fab but I can't remember!
Glastonbury was far more cool then... maybe i'll take my kids one day. June 09 Steve Got Me Watching Big Brother!Well i am sure that Steve (project manager at easyJet)) will be shuddering to know that he has inadvertently got me watching Big Brother. After a few weeks trying to complete a project through any means possible, I have worked a bank holiday, a 17 hour day (well night) and two weekends, all for no pay and thanks, my body has finally given in and ground to halt on Thursday about 3pm... I thought I was slowly being drained for a few days, I went for my first run on the Monday as part of training for the Great North Run in September, then played football on Tuesday, by Wednesday my muscles were aching, my stomach ached and I was more tired than usual, by Thursday after not really sleeping and not feeling like food I was officially dead on my feet. In all of this the constant pressure of work has been the killer with little or no support from anyone above.
Anyway, lack of ability to sleep and being unable to physically get out of bed on Friday has resulted in one thing, a return to watching Big Brother as it is the only thing to watch at 3am... so I have watched Emily get evicted for not alot and a scary new Michael Jackson lover and someone who sounds like a bastard creation of Avid Merion and Borat join the show. In all of this I could only think one thing, this is Steves fault. Well actually its not entirely, some of it is the lack of process, the testing being squeezed to no days and a complete blame culture directed soley at IT... Other than that it is his fault. I do need a holiday, I have at least 10 days from last year plus I have taken none this year... These last few days have been further evidence that I am burning out... I need a holiday. Anyway for now i am stuck watching Big Brother, Joseph and a whole host of relocating, building, selling your own house!
Apologies to Paul for not being able to help him move house as a result, hopefully he is not stuck on a staircase somewhere trying to move a bed! |
