Dates

Forgetting all the MSF times but goes something like this, cute but lost, lovely but back with boyfriend, no ability to smile, big head, rugger who ha, few nights stand, not my type media buff, local working lass, scottish media runner quite nice, Saffa cute but naffa, fogot my wallet but really nice damit...thinks thats all...

Wedding With The Italian Mafia

So from the stag to the wedding and after a night in Palermo with a random chance encounter with some Americans (Gobby, I mean Gabby and co, all lovely!) who became our friends for the holiday and even the visit to the wedding venue of Favinagna, a small island off the coast of Sicily and the coastal town of Trapani.  First night is spent at the local pizzeria with some great pizza and the company of most of the wedding party.  Scooters followed the next day with my trepidation born out after the American girls crashed and being distracted myself shot off into the curb and a minor dismount myself.  Girls were fine which is more than can be said for Vipul the Cripple whose brief scooter adventure lasted about 100m followed by swift impact into a local van and swift dismount leading to incapcitation and a lovely pair of stilts to keep him upright for the wedding the next day.  Scootering an idealic island after a few miles is great fun as you open up round the windy quiet roads of the island past crystal clear waters and small beaches and coves.  The island once a quarry is now populated with small holiday homes and sheep with a single mountain and tunnel for entertainment on the 5km loop of the island.  I can see why people like bikes but for now the scooters rule!

With the scooters back in their rental home it was time for the wedding and looking like the local Reservoir Dogs posse we descended on the town square for the wedding.  With Franco getting Anxious that Silke might not make it, the fear is replaced with a smile as she turns up, dad driving the motorbike and sidecar to the wedding door.  With the wedding complete and the husband and wife battered with rice it is on to the james Bond location of the quarry hotel the Cava Hotel Bianche.  Stunning blue sky a pool and some local food to pass the time before the wedding meal, it all ideal made perfect by the turning up of the wedding planner - a supposed but not Katie holmes lovely.  All is good as the food and wine flows - not usually one for the white but it goes down well with the food and 51 bottles later (well between the few guests drinking), it is onto the dance floor for a U2 rendition by the local cat Bruno and then some dancing and partying.

With the wedding fest over it is into town for a chance encounter at the only bar open with the local underworld.  After settling into the bar and £4 bottles of beer, meeting of the local mafia begins with drinks bought and requested.  It's all going well as in stumbles the wedding planner with boyfriend in tow.  Dating rule 1 go say hi, dating rule 2 befriend the boyfriend, dating rule 3 try out your fluent Italian skills on all and make friends with everyone, convinced that you are in with the local crowd and your fluent Italian and Naples heritage will keep in love with the locals.  Random Scott Sandra joins the party, a local hotel manager in a sea of Italians.  Things all seem great, everyone friendly, everyone buying me drinks but in fact things had taken a sinister edge with Marco the only real fluent Italian speaker convinced that Chris (my friend) is not liked by the local Honcho and it is time to leave, not entirely convinced stay around for a while, while others drive into the mountains for some smokes and I continue the chat.  Home is a lift in a random kids smart car, shofa driven to the door.  Italian goodnight and it is into the flat, bugger, no keys and a wait while the others turn up with local gangster numero uno.

Back for a smoke, not partaking and working out how the cripple and co will retunr home on their 7am ferry with the time already fast approaching that.  It seems time for bed but for one last adventure with real grass as Biggs falls down the staires depositing the keys in the local bush.  After ripping out the entire garden in a smoke fuelled stuper, it was his responsibility to find them it is into the flat for a sleep and the start of a two day trek home from an island I really had fun on and want to stay and enjoy the sun of more!

Great wedding, fantastic people, lovely time!

Budapest Stag 2009

Stag do in Budapest had all the making of a good piss up, the exchange rate holding up, beer cheap, strippers - although Bruno, The Stag had banned them and guns.  Arrived on the Friday morning and quickly checked into the apartments (lotus house flats) that we had rented in central Pest.  We had hired a tour guide for the initial night to show us the clubs which initially I was a bit dubious about but turned out to be an inspired decision.  First stop the local pub over the road and then onto the more exciting locations of a local sociallist pub and then a great club based on the top floor of an old department store and accessed via a maintenance lift.  Looking like some club out of hostel or some torture porn movie it didn't look like it would be that good but was pretty cool inside with random rooms with a variety of rooms and some good music.  We ended up there on two nights, the first meeting a random hen do and then the second night a late night music set of all types of eastern european folk music set to heavy beats.  You can find the site here - http://www.corvinteto.com.  The hen do allowed us to score points based on a stag task list, quickly amassing a few points and devil horns it was off to another club and a load of Italian exchange students.  A few drinks later and after nearly getting run over by a bus, believing that standing in the bus lane means they will slow down wasn't quite working as it does in the UK or even Italy for that matter, it was off to the strip club.  Having not told Franco this cued an argument and Franco's early departure with Biggs taking the role of the stag and a live on stage strip with one of the girls. 6am and bed!  I think this 6am was after a trip accross the river to a club in a this time modern shopping center before my beer autopilot kicked in and I walked home -  a somewhat longer distance than expected...

Second day was much of the same but this time with guns, after a gruelling 2h wander round Budapest to see a football stadium which was frankly shit it was then off to shoot guns.  Again looking like a building from hostel this was looking a bit random.  Sitting in the waiting room you could hear the sound of the guns as they went off in the room next door.  Once inside the line of guns resembled a Matrix film and we were going to get to shoot them all.  Now my aim is dodgy at bet, no idea why but if i aim in snooker i'll miss.  I play on instint and not sure shooting guns should be attempted in this way.  After the first few guns though I'd hit the target more times with a 10.  But once the Dirty Harry gun cam out it was all down hill as gun after gun left me wondering what the hell i'd been hitting.  Only the pump action showed I could hit the target!

Chirag showed his Luton roots being allowed to shoot his gun side on gangster style to comedy effect as he hit the roof with a shot, possibly not the safest way to shoot but totally endorsed by the gun trainer and his mate (who looked like he might open up on all of us at any pont).  The final gun was a sniper gun with an amzing accuracy, despite shooting the wrong target to start with i manged to hit the bull clean off.  I think that is where my skills lie rather than with the AK and uzi.  After the guns it was more beer and music at Corventino and then bed at 5am.

Final day was more chilled with a spa and massage at the Gellert a old spa hotel on the banks on the Danube.  Although maybe deiring a fit 25 year old Hungarian female massuse it turned out to be a fat 50 year old burly bloke who was actually pretty damm good and feeling chilled after the warm spa's managed to clear alot of tension, must have more of these at home!  The final night spent partly in the rain trying to find somewhere and then endless games of table football and beers ruining much of the massage and chilling earlier.  Back to the strip joint, again without Bruno and this time just watching while the single guys took a dance.  Bed at 6am.  Flight home at midday!  Good weekend, tired and sleepy for another bruising week at work!  Roll on Sicily.

Man Utd v Everton

Looks like Everton are playing Man Utd at Wembly on the same weekend as Franco's wedding in Italy, it is time to start working on that cloning technology.

Weekend Run

I should have prepared better but in the end it all came good.  After drinks Friday with my apparent secret affair and then food in Borough, getting lost on the buses or London and ending up with food in Putney, the big race day was upon me.  The MK half which I ran in 1hr 53 last year is the Milton Keynes half marathon which is a Nike event that is a good testing ground for those with a full marathon in mind.  I was supposed to be running this with a few people but most retired injured.  Anyway the weather held and was sunny although windy as the race started from the Open University.  OUt into the streets of MK the first few Km's are a mix of 4.15 to 4.30 minute times, winding through what is actually a very picturesque area with small little villages and local pubs making up the outskirts of MK.  At 6km it is intoo a local park and round a lake and then back round into aa head wind.  10k split is 43 minutes which is my usual 10k time.  Onwards from here is a slog as you hit the new housing of MK and the roundabouts and underpasses start with frequent rises and dips in the road.  I'd like to think it is a breeze and the second 10k is a negative split as Steve calls it but it is a hard slog with a bastard bridge climb at 20km and a tough inward run as I hit the wall and a headwind.  I usually take a breather but manage to carry on with my time slowing to 4.45's.  I am pretty impressed that it never got to 5 mins a km.  The final few Km's come to and end and it is a sprint to the finish.  Photos courtesy of Steve are on Facebook.  Thinking a few more beers are the way forward before the a run - actually maybe a few less and a sub 1.30 time is the next target!  The best finish to the day is a sunday dinner at the Vic in hitchin and the sofa.  An all round good weekend.

The crime of stealing milk in the office

I am a thief, apparently anyway to a petty minded work colleague.  Everyday the kitchen is filled with an ample bosom of milk for tea for the day.  I tend to eat my breakfast at work and so fill up from the ample bosom each morning feeding my dry cereal.  Anyway it seems that this is not allowed as the milk is only for tea or so i am told by a fellow if work colleague - who claims security cameras ensure I dont steal milk for cereal.  One problem is that I drink black tea.  While one cup is probably not good enough for cereal I have enlisted my work pals who dont drink milk to boost my bosom quota to cereal proportions.  I now have a signed post-it note with which to show said colleague next time she complains about my cereal suckling that my work pals have given up their milk for me.   Thanks work pals!

1 year On - Barney RIP

Well it is one year since Barney died and it is hard not to look back at everything Barney represented, he was the union between me and Steph and with him really died our final link which is sad, if I could go back and change so many things from then i would do, the whole relationship break up was wrong -in how it happened at least (only when she left with a final hug did everything clear).  Would I go back and change what happened, how some events now haunt me, yes.  Would I change my life since, no.  So many good things have happened since and it is hard to imagine things the other way anymore.  Did I think Steph was the one, yes. Could things have been different, maybe if I had talked more but so many things had gone wrong and it became too difficult to talk.  Anyway, today is a day of reflection.  I am sad neither of them are in my life but I need to move on...

Playstation 3

Having not shot anything for a while due to the demise of the Xbox and my inability to get it fixed, I was in need of stress relief so a few shops later and i am the proud owner of a second hand PS3 with Killzone.  I have to say first impressions say this is so much better than the Xbox purely because I can't hear it, looks good and plays well.  Very chilled day.  Mmmm, should really be buying the fridge freezer.

Private members club - Covent Garden - 27/2

After meeting my parents for dinner at Carluccios, I headed to the The Hospital (http://www.tipped.co.uk/listings/67537/the-hospital), the home for the arty instatutionalist, a private members bar spread over 4 floors with food, cinema, bars and a games room playing Xbox Rock band.  Pretty amazing place filled with beautiful people.  You head in through reception looking like something out of a habitat catlogue and sign in as guests of Pat, Jo's Accenture boyfriend.  A lift to the 4th floor and a bar with views over London and the wheel, a bar bill later then it is into the games room to watch some arty drunks sing their heart out to random rock songs.  Find out that the V&P guy actually only does it on the side and is a record producer in Canada and has helped produce some of the offshoots of the Wu Tang.  Given the size of the band this could actually be my uncle so maybe not as impressive.  The club is amazing but not feeling it being very tired after another stupid week at work.  Dream of sliding home aboard the Barclay card waterslide and another bar bill later i am home.  Hoping for a chilled weekend and a good Sainsbury's database upgrade.

One week till the MK half marathon.

Scoring the best goal in the world 18/2

Best goal in the world, fact, half way, left foot, volley, nobody moved, bottom right corner.  Still being talked about this week.  Hopefully back to the scoring ways.  Bring on the Accenture game for the 3/3.

Camden Koko - Monday 23/2

I can now say I have witnessed an American Idol in action, Kelly clarkson looking a few pounds heavier singing 6 songs, only one of which I have heard but can no longer remember.  Also got to see White lies (think Joy Division, Smiths and The Killers rolled into one), Ladyhawk, Chris Cornell (of ex-Soundgarden fame) and also Sarah Cox, who very kindly posed for a photo and passed the night with some banter about whether she looked good or should just have pulled a face.  It sounds like this was a close up conversation but was actually over 3 feet while she introduced a few bands that weren't there, bloke from Take That and Starsailor.  The magic of TV, with some compare bod getting the crowd to rock out to random music just in case the bands were shit.  Seemed that everyone was there for Kelly!  Happy birthday to the girl I was with by the way.

Drunk in London 20/2

Well I spent my first ever all nighter in London, nothing like living your twenties in your thirties.  This was the first get together with the Finish holiday gang for a few drinks and catch up.  Went to a Finish bar, thought it was a bit shit and then went to Revolutions in Soho for drinks and bad attempts to meet some women.  Ended up chatting to two girls who I think were from up north, but no longer sure as much of the night is a haze.  I do remember them both kissing so maybe things were never really going to take off.  A few random bars, a bit of dancing, yes you heard that right and then first train home following a burger in an all night cafe in Kings Cross.  Only notable end to the night was Steve falling asleep on his train and waking back in London after going to Hertford and back.  The down side is trying to run in the morning after a few hours sleep, at least it is warming up!

The Plan

The plan never fits, it is out of date and not planned to be followed by anyone, if the time on the plan was spent not on the plan then the plan would be finished without the plan. If the plan of the plan was spent time on by the people not writing or following the plan then nothing would come of the work being done from the plan.  In the end the plan is just the plan but dont read  the plan without knowing the plan thats not on plan.

The MSF challenge

Well this post is likely to get me into trouble one day but in the absence of anything else in my life at the moment the challenge was worth a go.  I have been on My Single Friend the dating site from her with the big tits off the Property Ladder; having been introduced to the site through a friend at work and after few random dates and conversations I have discovered that much of the Accenture team at work is dating through this site.  Considering they never go home this is likely the only source of amusement except for some late night finger hand action.  Bankers, teachers and lawyers need also apply.

Anyway, I digress, the challenge came about through Helen, a fellow MSF friend and Accenture fiend who I got chatting to over a few wines one evening, actually worse the pirate Accenture messenger system at Sainsbury's, came up with a challenge.  The challenge was to chat to and date the many random people who came up on MSF and emailed you, who you wouldn't normally consider because they broke the MSF rules of engagement. These are many but include No picture, only one picture likely to mean it was taken several years ago when they looked good, they come from Hitchin and have been inbred there for several generations, or, had no depth in their opening mail, 'hello, how are you?' does not wash these days for conversation.

Ok, so to date this bet has involved cake in a random tea shop in Hitchin, a very long drink in a pub in London before dashing off to meet my brother 300 miles away in Dorset and one person who refused to smile and possibly never had.  Now the question is how long does the bet stand - until we meet our dating stalker and die, before I run out of money?  She will win there as can date investment wankers till she dies.

I have not given up though, if the right person turns up and several have been and gone from the Japanese loving girl to the Kiwi girl then I will be there and i think that is the win.

The Mix tape is back

The years have passed since the cassette player was banished from my household to be replaced by round shiney discs.  The days gone of coming home from school turning on the evening session and taping the latest new release by Suede or Ride and playing it over and over.

However it is the art of the mix tape that has been lost forever or so I thought until I blipped  This art would require great skill and planning in putting together a set of tunes that came to 45 minutes or maybe utilise those few additional unknown seconds before the tape flipped and the song was lost.  Then there was the hours of decision of which tune would open the tape and which would close it, would it be released to a friend or loved one and what would the reaction would be; like opening night at the theatre, would the show succeed, would they be playing that tape until it died?

There are some classic moments that have come in my life through being given a tape to discover classics such as Pavement, Spiritualized and even Ratcat!  Now that blipping is here, surely a term for the dictionary within a few years, the late night mixing is truely saved!  God save the mix!

The Lazy Perfectionist

The lazy perfectionist is the guy who has designed the house in his mind, the garden, an urban playpad with period features and a modern style.  An open style kitchen with a view over the garden and a glazedroof and eating area to the side.  The lazy perfectionist has it in his mind but the reality never comes. The enclosed garden with its leafy sides, the lounge area to the rear with covered vines to chill in on those warm summer nights.  The house is warm within with open loft area with cinema pad and gaming galore.

He goes to work everyday with new insight and practical approaches to his project which saves the day again.  Everything is in order and planned for the year, no reaction to the coming storms, its all in hand and known to all.  Work finishes on time and the night swirls to good effect, the London party scene, quiet night in a bar, a gig, an arty event or two.  Sitting tired on a train he dreams it all again.  Is the job secure?

To pursue your dreams is all good and well but sometimes you need a helping hand, a few pounds in the bank and your mind not endlessly spinning a yarn.  To have the time is all that he wants to out his thoughts to good effect, to not get bogged down in the detail that perfection desires and not end up in this halfway house.
